Our Mission
To instill and nurture a passion for all snow sports along with developing character, discipline and desire, which encourages young athletes to reach their highest potential.
What is TSSC?
The Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club (TSSC) is a non-profit corporation incorporated under the laws of the State of Colorado and holds 501 (c)(3) charitable tax exemption status. The TSSC provides regional youths, 6 to 18 years old, competitive skiing and snowboarding programs. TSSC is the largest youth organization, in both size and duration of programs, in the southwestern Colorado region. Over 40% of eligible students who are enrolled in Telluride Public School District R1 participate in TSSC programs.
TSSC membership was over 250 athletes last season and we are looking forward to new members and programs for the 2009/2010 season.
TSSC is comprised of a governing board of 9 directors. The board consists of one alpine seat, one freestyle seat, one snowboard seat, one at-large seat, one seat occupied by the Telluride R1 School District, one seat for the Telluride Ski & Golf Company, as well as three open parent seats. The Club is managed by an executive director, an administrator, a bookkeeper, three program directors, and employs close to 35 coaches.
TSSC is more than just a ski and snowboard club.
TSSC continues to be more than just an athletic program. We strive to be a support group for our members and the youth of the region by setting up structured programs that emphasize safety, discipline, sportsmanship and mountain etiquette. Our coaches love skiing and snowboarding and their passion is infectious.
TSSC also strengthens the community.
Educational benefits. TSSC strives to be the number one academic support organization in the Telluride region. We promote the pursuit of academic excellence and work with the Telluride R1 School District as a partner in setting scholastic standards.
Economic benefits. TSSC markets and hosts several events during the winter which attract competitors from across the nation. The Club hosts several that produce approximately 10,000 skier/snowboarder days. Regional and local businesses benefit from these events, especially during the low-season time of year.
The Club helps keep kids on the right track. TSSC provides the only extracurricular option for ski and snowboard programs with an emphasis on training and competition. Without TSSC, a huge void in after school and weekend youth participation would exist at a time when it is needed most.
