**Private and home schooled students can meet at the clubhouse, 3:30pm

** Practices over holiday break will most likely change to a different time in the day for skiing in the sun. ** ** ** Practices can also be cancelled depending on coaching staff availability.

** With the possibility of schools going fully remote due to covid, athletes can be dropped off before the “leave clubhouse” time.

The Coaches: I am very excited to announce that we have a very robust coaching staff this season! We will be welcoming back Max Cooper, Mara MacDonell and Corrine Platt to the coaching staff, as well as our amazing volunteer coaches of Thalia Pryor, Cindy Farney and Allison Snyder. We will also be welcoming one newcomer to our TSSC coaching family, Ruthie Boyd.

Races: In a typical season we race in the Rocky Mountain Division, where we would be racing all over the state against Colorado teams. However, due to covid this season, races are still unknown on whether we can attend and compete. However, there are many more local community races that we will attend instead of RMN races. When we race it is all focused around fun, friends and learning. Please see below of possible races we will be attending this season!

Dates             Event

Jan 9/10        Crested Butte “RMN” Race

Feb 6             Alley Loop Citizen Race

Jan 18            TSSC SKI-A-THON

Feb 27/28        Steamboat Springs “U14 Championship”

**I will certainly be adding races as the season goes on. Many do not have dates decided yet.

Welcome to the team Zoom!  December 1st 6-7pm

Equipment

For this season, we will be charging for rental equipment. This equipment is all communal equipment and therefore cannot be taken home and kept at home. All equipment MUST live in the clubhouse. The exception is, if you want to use the equipment on the weekend, you may take it Thursday after practice, BUT it must be back by Monday morning. You will need to fill out the weekend equipment form sign out sheet.

$50 - Includes Skate and Classic Skis and Poles with a pair of boots.

This is non-refundable. We will use this money to keep the fleet well stocked and of good quality.

Check or cash should be brought to gear fitting night on Dec 2nd.

Gear Fitting Night:   Dec 2nd, 4-8pm

  1. Fill out this form if you need gear this season (this will help to speed things along).

  2. Fill out this sign up genius for a time slot on Gear Fitting Night

  3. Bring cash or check. $50 per athlete. Checks made out to Telluride Nordic Association

We will have two stations set up, at backdoor of the clubhouse in the “square”.

Families only need to sign up for one slot. Have your kids wear ski socks to the fitting.

Masks required! Please be prompt !

Purchasing Equipment

We are encouraging returning families to purchase their own equipment. Boot doctors should have a good supply of NNN boots, poles and skis. Ask for Max when you get there ! There is a very low supply in the valley of children nordic equipment, so reselling will be a breeze.

Selling Equipment?

If anyone is selling their used equipment, please email me directly. Although we can’t do a ski swap in person, I plan to provide a way to do it electronically.

That is all the information for now! Sorry, HUGE brain dump. Please let me know if you have any comments, questions and/or concerns!

Thanks !

Wayne Clark

Welcome to the Telluride Nordic Ski Club

Telluride Nordic Ski Club

2020-2021 Program Information

Director:  Wayne Clark,  nordic@tssc.org

Greetings cross country skiers!!

The Telluride Nordic Ski Club is for recreational and competitive cross country skiers in grades 3-12.  Instruction will take place in both classic and skate techniques.  No experience is necessary.   Classic and skate cross country skiing equipment is available to rent from the Club; inventory is limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.  Kids should bring their own equipment, if possible.

The Nordic development program is for kids who have been cross-country skiing for a few seasons, or who are new to Nordic skiing.   Skiers will develop basic skills and fitness of both classic and skate techniques in a fun learning environment.  The club encourages kids from other sports to enroll so that athletes can maintain and improve their fitness throughout the winter months.  Participants will be introduced to racing and will have the option to compete in regional race events.

The Nordic race program will focus on improving the fundamental skills and fitness of both classic and skate ski techniques while preparing athletes of all ages for racing competition.  Skiers will work on physical conditioning activities and technical knowledge to advance skill and fitness levels in a fun environment.  The club will work with competitors in other sports to cross train during the winter months.  Athletes are encouraged, but not required, to train for and participate in regional USSA Junior Nordic and other race events.

WHEN

3-Day Program:  Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from December 7 through March 4, after school until 5:15 pm. Holiday breaks include, however, can be at different times.

2-Day Program:  M/W, M/R, T/R from December 7 through March 4, after school until 5:15, holiday breaks include, however, can be at different times.

WHERE:  Immediately after school, skiers meet at the TSSC clubhouse at bottom of lift 7 (where equipment is stored) to suit up. Those that attend public school will be picked up by a coach outside of the Palm theater, 10 minutes after school lets out.  Group will then walk to Valley Floor or Town Park Nordic trails, or be shuttled to other local Nordic trails, for practice in groups divided by age and ability.  Kids will return to the clubhouse for pickup at 5:15pm

Wayne Clark, Nordic Director and Head Coach

Wayne grew up racing in upstate New York at the state and national level, qualifying for Junior Nationals at Salt Lake City, Truckee, CA and Anchorage, Ak. After high school he attended the University of Wisconsin Green Bay where he skied and raced for the division 1 team. Once graduated, Wayne moved to Boulder, Colorado where he started coaching with the Boulder Nordic Junior Racing Team. After his first season he was named head coach of development where he stayed for the following four years. As head coach he was responsible for training plans, communication among coaches and parents, staying relevant with current training pedagogy, wax technician and establishing a lifelong love for skiing among his athletes. While coaching for BNJRT he received his USSA coaching level 100 and 200 certificate. Wayne is extremely excited to have the opportunity of working with the great coaches and staff of the TSSC, as well as the Telluride Nordic Association.
