Welcome to the Telluride Nordic Ski Club
Telluride Nordic Ski Club
2020-2021 Program Information
Director: Wayne Clark, nordic@tssc.org
Greetings cross country skiers!!
The Telluride Nordic Ski Club is for recreational and competitive cross country skiers in grades 3-12. Instruction will take place in both classic and skate techniques. No experience is necessary. Classic and skate cross country skiing equipment is available to rent from the Club; inventory is limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Kids should bring their own equipment, if possible.
The Nordic development program is for kids who have been cross-country skiing for a few seasons, or who are new to Nordic skiing. Skiers will develop basic skills and fitness of both classic and skate techniques in a fun learning environment. The club encourages kids from other sports to enroll so that athletes can maintain and improve their fitness throughout the winter months. Participants will be introduced to racing and will have the option to compete in regional race events.
The Nordic race program will focus on improving the fundamental skills and fitness of both classic and skate ski techniques while preparing athletes of all ages for racing competition. Skiers will work on physical conditioning activities and technical knowledge to advance skill and fitness levels in a fun environment. The club will work with competitors in other sports to cross train during the winter months. Athletes are encouraged, but not required, to train for and participate in regional USSA Junior Nordic and other race events.

Once graduated, Wayne moved to Boulder, Colorado where he started coaching with the Boulder Nordic Junior Racing Team. After his first season he was named head coach of development where he stayed for the following four years. As head coach he was responsible for training plans, communication among coaches and parents, staying relevant with current training pedagogy, wax technician and establishing a lifelong love for skiing among his athletes.
